A very French village holiday house in Capestang, Languedoc, South of France
This much loved, three storey VERY French house of real character, next to the spectacular Canal du Midi, is the French home of myself and my French wife, when we're not in England, and it’s furnished accordingly.
If you are expecting a villa with a pool and gold taps then this house is not for you.
It is ideal if you want a real taste of French life (markets, boules, cafes, boulanger) or let the kids go off safely on their own or try out your French on the friendly neighbours.

From the road you enter straight into the lounge.
The kitchen is beyond the Languedoc spiral staircase and has a whole range of cooking utensils, sink, gas cooker, fridge, washing machine, dish washer, cupboards and shelves, TV, plus round table and chairs.
In the corner is an open fireplace, which you will not need!
The staircase goes up to a front bedroom (double bed), a rear bedroom (two single beds) and bathroom (shower, toilet and washbasin).
Up again to the attic, where there are four or five single beds, which we usually have for the grandchildren.
There are hundreds of books in French and in English on all floors so you should be able to find one you like.
There is no garden, but no traffic either.
Parking is opposite the house or about 100m up the road in the car-park.
A parasol is in the house for visits to the beaches which are about 25 minutes away by car.
Capestang (market on Wednesday and Sunday) is a delightful village on the famous Canal du Midi, which joins the Atlantic to the Mediterranean Sea.
The main centres of Capestang are the recently renovated square and the canal port, which is about 400m behind the house
The port is very busy in summer when the canal is active with both hired and touring craft.
You can chose from several nearby bakers, one just the other side of the castle and another up in the square. For general shopping there is the market and local shops.
At the edge of town is a supermarket, and there is even a Lidl on the other side of town.
Cycling is a lovely way to explore, especially within the village or along the canal. There are several bikes at the house and you are welcome to use them at your own risk.
The best place to swim is at Bize, about 4km away, in a pool in the River Cesse where the crystal clear water is refreshing and there is shade provided by the trees.
Further afield are Carcassonne, Minerve, Lagrasse and Perpignan, plus the wonderful Parc Regional du Haut Languedoc (the second largest in France).
Sete is a colourful fishing village with excellent fresh seafood.
You are not far from the Corbieres, Cathar castles and the spectacular open-carriaged “Little Yellow Train” - ride up the valley towards Andorra.
The nearest airport is at Beziers (15km).
Bed linen and towels can be supplied at extra cost.
Please no smoking in the house.
