Quercy Gites, situated at Begot, with swimming pool and tennis court near Cahors and the Dordogne
in the Lot, Midi Pyrenees
Both the Grange and the Fournil have comfortable living rooms and lots of exterior space where the sun can be taken and meals can be enjoyed.
Both gites are centrally heated and so can be rented throughout the year.
There is a swimming pool (filtered and solar heated) and a tennis court.
La Grange is a barn conversion, with comfortable living space consisting of an open plan area with beamed ceiling and natural stone walls and floor.
Within this area is the dining area and the sitting area, as well as a modern fully fitted kitchen separated by a breakfast bar.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a cooker, fridge / freezer, dishwasher, toaster, kettle, espresso coffee machine, microwave and other sundry items.
There is UK radio and television as well as French TV.
We supply an eclectic library of books for all tastes and some board games for visitors' use.
There is a network installed giving full broadband facilities and wifi.
There are three good sized bedrooms, two with double beds and one with twin single beds.
There is also a cot and a high chair available for small children.
There is a luxury bathroom with shower cubicle, corner bath, bidet, vanitory unit and WC and a further shower room with shower cubicle, sink and separate toilet.
This room can be accessed directly from the terrace for a shower after sun-bathing and swimming.
Accommodation in La Grange is on one level and can be accessed from a car, avoiding steps, so it is wheel-chair friendly.
The living area is the covered terrace where meals can be enjoyed out of direct sunlight. There is also a swimming pool, barbecue and a tennis court to help you enjoy the summer days and evenings.
Beside the entrance door is a utility room which houses the central heating boiler. There is a washing machine an iron and ironing board and also an additional refrigerator in this room.
The tennis court, swimming pool, washing machine and iron are shared facilities between La Grange and our other gite, Le Fournil.
La Grange is centrally heated (oil-fired) and has a powerful wood burning stove in addition, so it can be rented throughout the year (ask for a quote for long term rentals). Winter guests should purchase oil and wood direct to minimise heating costs.
House hunters may be interested to note that furniture can be stored in the barn area upstairs by arrangement.
A one bedroom cottage with a comfortable double bed, fitted dressing table and ample hanging space for clothes. The bedroom is reached up a small stairway from the living area below. Please note that this stairway is not advisable for those with any mobility restrictions.
Downstairs is a shower room and separate toilet and the living room with a corner kitchen.
In the kitchen area there is a sink unit, mini fridge/freezer and a typically French two ring mini cooker with small oven and grille. All other necessary equipment is provided such as a toaster, a kettle and all kitchen utensils.
In the living room area there is a bed-settee and a dining table with two chairs.
The television is tuned to pick up UK stations and radio stations and there is a radio/CD player for French radio stations. French clients may request French TV if they prefer and we will make the necessary adjustments.
The property is networked, giving full broadband facilities with wifi.
Outside there is a private patio with table and chairs, sunbeds and a built-in barbecue.
Located between Cahors to the south and Gourdon to the north, La Grange is situated in the heart of the Bouriane area near the town of Catus (5km away).
There are many chateaux you can visit for a wine tasting and the local brewery also offers beer tasting. Cahors itself has an annual wine festival, as do a number of local villages and towns. The most famous of these being the Albas wine festival in June.
Just 2km to the west of Catus is Lac Vert, where you can swim, canoe, hire pedalos, play tennis, volley ball or table tennis. There is good fishing here in the season. Lac Vert also has two bars and restaurants.
There is a riding stables close by.
In the local area, there are many caves to visit as well as art galleries, museums, a go-kart track, parascending, canoeing, a lido with flumes and much more.
In July and August, Cahors has its Cahors Plage, an artificial beach and lido adjoining the river bank. Also in mid-July there is the famous Cahors Blues Festival.
For golfers, Souillac Country Club has a beautiful 18 hole golf course that meanders through 120 acres of forest providing a challenge to golfers of all levels. This picturesque course offers everything for an excellent game, with breathtaking views. The ambiance at the club is relaxed and friendly (English spoken) with many other sporting activities and a Kid's Club. The golf course is 30 minutes drive from Bégot.
In July all the local villages have their annual parties (fêtes votives) and Catus is no exception. These parties feature fairground rides, stalls, live music, dancing and much more. They are usually three days duration ending with firework displays.
Catus has a good shopping centre with a pharmacy, butcher, hairdresser, bank, supermarket (open 8am-8pm, 7 days a week), newsagent / tobacconist / bar bakery, post office, electrical goods store, wine shop, bar / restaurant, and a formal restaurant.
There is a very helpful and enthusiastic tourist office which can help with all your needs to fully enjoy the region. Market day is Tuesday and there is a farmers' market Saturday mornings in "Les Halles", the newly restored covered market which ensures shelter from the sun or the rain.
There is an excellent restaurant in the local village which is in walking / cycling distance (also available are takeaway pizzas). They offer the typical 5-course set lunch menu including wine for around 13 euros.
Close by in Concores the bar hosts regular visits by Le Cod en Bleu which is an English run fish and chips van.
There is a good supermarket in Espere, ten minutes away and big supermarkets are sited in Prayssac, Gourdon and Cahors, all of which are about 20 minutes by car.
There are famous restaurants in close proximity (La Recreation in Les Arques about which the book From Here You Can't See Paris was written and Le Gindreau which has two Michelin Stars and was featured recently on ITV for their prowess with truffles).
The local restaurant in Catus (L'Auberge) is truly top class and in the summer, the restaurant at Le Lac Vert is very good too, with a spectacular and very romantic view across the lake
If you fancy seeking out a bargain, there is an extensive brocante (antique/junk shop) just on the other side of the valley (2km).
The Lot has many sites of interest, including caves with fascinating rock formations and, in several cases, cave paintings dating back to the dawn of time.
The town of Cahors was founded in 1 BC and still has much architecture remaining from medieval times.
The Valentre bridge in Cahors is the oldest in Europe and has an interesting and romantic history.
Nearby St Cirq Lapopie is among the most beautiful villages in France and a little further is Rocamadour the shrine of St Amadour) with its spectacular position clinging to the cliffs, with the chateau perched above the church and the church above the village.
Paris is just five hours by train or autoroute.
Local airports are at Brive (closest), Bergerac (1 hour), Toulouse(1 hour), Rodez (2 hours) or Limoges (2 hours).
Cahors is on the main Paris to Toulouse train line. Next year it will be upgraded to a TGV service.

We provide all linen and towels which are changed weekly.
There is no charge for these, but guests should bring their own towels for use outside and by the pool.
Bearing in mind baggage charges when flying, we can provide beach towels or other bulky items by prior arrangement.

Access on day of arrival is from 16:00.
A refundable damage deposit of €120,00 (~£100.00) is required.
A deposit of 25% is required on booking with the balance to be paid no later than 8 weeks before the date of arrival.
Bookings will be held for five days pending payment of the booking deposit.
On the departure date, guests should vacate by 10:00.
