La Maison du Jardin Loire Valley holiday cottage perfect for two.
La Maison du Jardin is a restored 18th century stone farmhouse situated in our lovely country garden in a small quiet farming hamlet just outside the village of Valanjou amid the soft green pastures of the Layon valley dotted with picturesque villages and vineyards.
La Maison du Jardin is approx 35 minutes south of Angers and equidistant from Cholet and Saumur in the department of Maine-et-Loire.

Accommodation
The accommodation is generous for two. Babes in arms are welcome and a cot is available, however we don’t feel the property is suitable for toddlers and young children.
The front door opens into a large sitting room with its original terracotta tiled floor, traditional tufa fireplace, woodburner, sofa, easy chairs and sideboard, music centre, games and a good selection of books.
Dining area with table and chairs and a pretty garden view.
There is a well-equipped kitchen with fridge, gas cooker, microwave, dishwasher, toaster and breakfast table.
A rear door leads to the drive, parking and large grassy area.
Upstairs is a large light bedroom with double bed.
There is a separate shower room with a large shower, handbasin, electric wall heater and a glazed door opening onto stone steps leading down to the garden.
There is also a separate WC.
Free WiFi is available.
Outside
The house has a pretty south facing front garden with table and chairs where you can sit in privacy and dine al fresco or just relax or read and enjoy the tranquillity. A barbecue is provided.
At the back of the house there is a large grassy area surrounded by natural hedgerows and the drive leading up to the back door for easy unloading and safe parking.
Local area
This lovely part of the Loire Valley is typified by its gentle countryside and easy way of life. Rich in culture and steeped in history this bountiful region is also known as the Garden of France offering wonderful food and wine.
La Maison du Jardin is situated in a small quiet farming hamlet just outside the village of Valanjou amid the soft green pastures of the Layon valley dotted with picturesque villages and vineyards.
Valanjou, 2.5km, has two boulangers, a pharmacy, bar-tabac, two hairdressers, an excellent supermarket (open on Sunday mornings), a garage, and a creperie.
A travelling fishmonger comes to the village square every Thursday.
The small town of Thouarcé is approx 9km with a small open market on Tuesday mornings and a Super-U supermarket with petrol. There are two banks, boulanger, florist, bar-tabac a good restaurant – Le Cheval Blanc and a super new indoor swimming pool.
Vihiers is slightly larger and is 10km. Market day is Wednesday. There are several restaurants and bars, post office, large Super-U supermarket, banks, optician, pharmacies, open-air swimming pool, and riding school. There is a very nice picnic area with plenty of shade, parking and lots of local fishing activity.
12km west is Chemillé known for its herb garden and medicinal plants with a large street market on Thursdays selling local produce, clothes, etc. There are cafés, bars, banks, supermarkets, a huge new theatre with restaurant and another brand new swimming pool. There is a pizzeria and a good Routier.
We are surrounded by vineyards and a trip to a wine-tasting is a very popular pastime for many of our visitors.
Anjou boasts over 600 miles of subterranean passages burrowing into the rock on the hillsides above the Loire where complete villages can be found beneath the limestone plain.
Local Chateaux of the Loire include Brissac Quincé, Saumur, Angers and Montreuil-Bellay all well within an hour from us. Le Lude, Ussé, Chinon, Azay-le Rideau are about an hour and a half. Chenonceau, Amboise, Chaumont and others are a bit further again.
Saumur has magnificent panoramic views over the town and river from the gardens. As well as the Musée d’Arts décoratifs the castle houses the Musée du Cheval. Saumur also has a large tank museum, Le Musé des Blindés.
Angers is proud to display the oldest French medieval tapestry to have survived dating from the late 14th century.
Golf - Golf Club d’Angers is within 30 minutes. There are also golf clubs in Cholet and Saumur within a 30 to 40 minutes drive.
The conservation Zoo at Doué La Fontaine is a must. Everyone who goes loves it.
Futuroscope, the exciting theme park based on multimedia, cinema and audio-visual techniques is ninety minutes away.
Puy du Fou, an all-action historical theme park and France’s 4th most popular tourist attraction, is less than an hour away.
Ferry Ports by road to Valanjou: Roscoff 4 hours, Cherbourg 4 hours, Caen (Ouisterham) 3 hours, Dieppe and Le Havre 3 hours 30minutes and Calais 5 hours.
Airports by road to Valanjou: Rennes 2 hours, Nantes 1.5 hours, Angers 48 minutes, Poitiers 2 hours and Tours 1h 40 minutes.
