Normandy, in the North of France is a region steeped in history, from the times of William the Conqueror to the battle grounds of World War Two. Normandy has so much to offer, such beautiful
countryside, an abundance of pretty fishing towns and miles of sandy beaches. A rich gastronomic area, renowned for the Camembert and Pont lEveque cheeses, cider and Calvados liqueur.
Rouen
- the museum city, a major port and cathedral town of medieval half-timbered houses and the lively pedestrianised Rue de Gros-Horloge which has an impressive Renaissance clock house that bridges the street. This is the city where Joan of Arc was imprisoned and burned at the stake and a national memorial now stands in her honour.
Caen- an impressive university town with two distinguished abbeys, one built by William the Conqueror and one built by his wife, Matilda. They are both buried there, in their
respective abbeys. Also worth visiting is the War Memorial Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Normandy.
Deauville - marina town with two world-famous racecourses, a casino and Pompeian baths.
Le Mont-St-Michel
- an amazing Benedictine abbey built on a granite peak out to sea, which receives more visitors each year than any other monument in France, except Versailles. The mont provides a breathtaking spectacle that can be reached by a causeway that links it to the mainland.
